Water boil order lifted after four days

The city of Eldon received an all-clear on its most recent water system issues when the Missouri Department of Natural Resources lifted its boil water order shortly before noon Saturday, June 6.

This was just four days after the DNR invoked the order Tuesday, June 2.

DNR reported a first set of clear test results from samples taken Thursday, June 4, with a second set of samples testing clean Saturday.

At the request of the DNR, the city was required to disinfect the water system through the injection of liquid chlorine. The chlorination process went smoothly and faster than anticipated.

Following the chlorination process, water samples were collected by DNR and tested by their labs, with all sample results coming back clear.

This is the second violation in six months for the city, which was placed under a boil water order in December.

While no decision has yet been made, DNR has told city officials that due to repeated E. Coli violations it will have to move to a chlorinated system, for which the cost and timeline are yet unknown.

The uniqueness of Eldon’s case is that E.Coli has not been found at the wells, with the water testing pure.

As such, the issues are somewhere in the miles of water mains in the distribution system.
