SAMPLES TEST CLEAN JAN. 6

Eldon boil order lifted

Posted

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has lifted the city of Eldon water boil order after samples collected Jan. 4 and 5 tested clean Tuesday, Jan. 6. The order was implemented Thursday, Dec. 18 after water samples tested positive for total coliform.

It is recommended that water customers take the following steps to flush their lines before ingesting water following a boil order.

Bath and laundry

Because bathing and laundry were safe throughout the boil order, no special cleaning is needed for showers, tubs, sinks, washing machines, or clothing.

Focus only on items connected to water you consume:

Drinking water lines

Run cold water from kitchen and bathroom sinks for 3-5 minutes to clear any stagnant water from household plumbing.

Discard old ice and refresh ice makers.

• Throw away ice made during the boil order.

• Run the ice maker through 1–2 full cycles before using again.

Replace or flush water filters

• Refrigerator water filters.

• Faucet-mounted filters.

• Pitcher filters.

Replace them if possible, or flush thoroughly per manufacturer instructions.

Clean faucet aerators

Remove and rinse faucet screens to eliminate any trapped sediment.

Ease back into drinking tap water (optional).

If you’re cautious, it’s okay to:

• Use bottled water for drinking for a short period.

• Resume normal tap use once you feel comfortable.

Peace of mind — not safety concerns.

Key reassurance

• Bathing and handwashing were always safe.

• Laundry and dishwashing were always safe.

• These steps are simply to reset drinking water systems.
