Oktoberfest is coming to downtown Eldon Saturday, Oct. 19.
Eight local businesses and two Missouri wineries are partnering for the first-ever Eldon Oktoberfest, with live food, music, games, beer and wine.
Below is a look at what’s on tap for the event:
Entertainment
The Blue Collar Kings, a classic rock, blues and country band, will perform from 2 to 4 p.m.
Squeeze Play, a polka band, will hit the stage from 4 to 8 p.m.
Games
Games will include hammerschlagen, masskrugstemmen, brezelwerfen and more for adults and children.
Hammerschlagen is a game where players compete to drive nails into a wooden beam or stump faster than their opponents. The name translates from German to "hammer strike.”
In the game Masskrugstemmen, a one liter stein, is held with one arm, completely stretched out and parallel to the floor. The person who holds up the stein the longest wins.
In brezelwerfen, players are paired up and stand facing each other, about 6–8 feet apart. One player holds a pretzel, and the other holds a Bavarian walking stick, or Stecken, horizontally.
The player with the pretzel tosses it onto the stick held by their partner. Each successful catch is worth a point, and the pair with the most points after a set number of rounds wins.
Lodging
Discounts on local lodging are also being offered for those wishing to stay overnight.
