Independence Day Celebrations

Area residents should mark their calendars, as a number of Independence Day events are on tap.

Eldon

Plans are in the works for the annual city of Eldon Independence Day celebration this Saturday, July 4. Festivities will kick off at 7:30 a.m. with the Firecracker 5K run/walk. The race will start and finish at the public safety building on S. Oak Street. Check-in begins at 6:45 a.m. and the deadline to preregister is noon Friday, June 26. Cost to pre-register is $20, $25 the day of the event. Those pre-registering will receive a race day shirt. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. (lineup at 9 a.m.), with no registration required. See parade route inside. The parade will be followed by a half price ($2) swim at the aquatic center from noon to 4 p.m. The airpark will open at 4 p.m. for food trucks and a variety of activities. Entertainment will be provided by the i-Berrys, a ninemember band based at the Lake of the Ozarks. The 6 p.m. concert will feature Irish, Celtic, pop, funk, country and rock music. As in the past, Citizens Bank of Eldon is sponsoring the fireworks show, which will take place at dark.

High Point

Freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from fear and freedom from want is the focus of this year’s High Point Fourth of July celebration. The High Point Community Renewal Association will host the annual event this Saturday, July 4 at the elementary school and ballfield. Food service begins at 5:30 p.m., with food provided by the Moreau Fire Protection District. Donations will be accepted. A kids activity table will be open from 6 to 7 p.m., with a veterans recognition ceremony with the playing of taps and 21-gun salute at 7 p.m. The Lucy Papen scholarship auction starts at 7:45 p.m., along with yard games and a fireworks display at dusk. Attendees are reminded to bring lawn chairs and no alcoholic beverages are allowed. In addition, a community worship service is planned for 11 a.m. Sunday, July 5 at the High Point Elementary School, followed by a community meal at noon. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share and drinks, plates and utensils will be provided.

Iberia

• The Iberia community will host an Independence Day celebration this Saturday, July 4 at the Iberia Lions Club. The event, which starts at 5 p.m., will feature the Lions Club concession stand, music, bounce houses, volleyball and cornhole games, fresh squeezed lemonade and Roscoe’s ice cream truck, with a fireworks display at dusk.

Tuscumbia

Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center will host a Fourth of July celebration this Friday, July 3. The event will feature yard games, with concessions for sale. Proceeds will go to the residents’ activity fund. Hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and drinks will go on sale at 7 p.m. and Roscoe’s ice cream truck will also be on-site. There will also be drinks for sale from Edwards Sweet Escapes. Live music featuring Helen Russell will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Families are also encouraged to bring blankets or chairs for the free fireworks show by the Tuscumbia Fire Protection District. The Tuscumbia Independence Day fireworks will be held Saturday, July 11 at Riverside Park. Fireworks will be provided at dusk by Mike Parciak, with the Tuscumbia Betterment Committee serving hot dogs, walking tacos, nachos, popcorn, ice cream, soda and water, starting at 6 p.m. The fireworks display will be at dark.
