The city of Eldon, with assistance from the Missouri Rural Water Association, is undergoing a temporary chlorination of its water system.
The measure was directed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources as a follow-up following the recent water boil order.
The boil order was initiated by DNR Thursday, Dec. 18 after water samples collected Dec. 16 and 17 tested positive for total coliform.
Following the chlorine infusion, the system will be flushed to remove any residual chlorine.
At this time city officials have no plans to continue with chlorination of the water supply.
During this time, residents using dialysis machines are advised to dechlorinate the water before using the water in the machine.
Residents might also note discoloration, odor or difference in the taste of water.
MRWA crews are providing some of the pumps needed for the project, with the city purchasing the chlorine.
Estimated cost to the city is between $8,000 and $20,000.
Water will be safe to drink during the process, which should last approximately one week.
